Product Details

Why do you need to use UBEC?

The UBEC is a switch-mode DC regulator separated from ESC (ESC---Electronic Speed Controller for brushless motor), it will take high-voltage (5.5V-23V) power from your battery pack and convert it to a consistent safe voltage for your receiver, gyro and servos.

If you are using a speed controller with a built-in BEC, it will very likely have only a limited ability to supply power to your receive and servos without overheating. If you have a relatively high-voltage battery pack or have heavy servo loads, you should consult the ESC specifications to determine what the stated recommendations or limitations are. In general, if you are using a 4S Lithium pack, or more than a 12-cells Nickel based pack, you should consider using the UBEC. In such a case, the built-in BEC of ESC only support 2 servos, so it is not suitable for RC helicopter and big aircraft.

Product Description

1. Specification:

1.1. Output: 5V/3A and 6V/3A switchable

1.2. Input: 5.5V-23V (2-5s lithium battery pack, 5-15cells NiMh / NiCd battery pack)

1.3. Size: 41.6mm*16.6mm*7.0mm (length*width*high)

1.4. Weight: 6g(input and output cables not included); 9g(cables included)

1.5 Ripple: <50mVp-p(@2A/12V)

2. Features:

2.1. The UBEC is an advanced switching regulator, provides over-current and over-heat protection function, and the witching frequency is 300KHz.The max efficiency of this chip is 92%

2.2. The smallest size and the lightest weight.

2.3. Don’t worry about the polarity of battery pack, if the polarity is not correct, the UBEC can’t work, but it will not be destroyed. What you need to do is just swap the battery pack polarity.

2.4. Compare linear BEC with switch-mode BEC: When using a lithium battery pack more than 3s, a switch-mode BEC has much higher efficiency than linear BEC.

2.4.1. For a traditional linear BEC: For examplea 4s lithium battery pack has a typical voltage of 14.8V, in order to let BEC outputs 5V/1A, the current flow into BEC is at least 1A, so the power on BEC is 14.8V* 1A=14.8W. But the useful output power is only 5V*1A=5W, so the efficiency of BEC is 5W/14.8W=33.8%, the redundant power 14.8W-5W=9.8W changes to heat, which makes the BEC very hot.

2.4.2. For a switch-mode BEC: In the above case, in order to let BEC outputs 5V/1A, the current flow into BEC is only 0.38A (actual test data), so the power on BEC is 14.8V* 0.38V=5.6W, and the efficiency of BEC is 5W/5.6W=89.3%.

it is stated 3A, but if you are using 3S lipo, do not exceed 2A.. there was %50 duty cycle when I drained 1A, which means %100 duty cycle in 2A on fully charged lipo..

I use alot of these; 1 to power my nitro truck rx with a lipo, one to set test my rx's, I have them on all my helis, AND use one to power my spektrum 6i with a 2s lipo. These little things are worth their weight in gold. I love them, and have had no problems with them.

My reason for installing a seperate bec was to even out the load being placed on my esc. I`m running a MX-rex 400 with an warp 4 motor cc 35 esc and TP 3s 2100 battery. four the longest time I had the mysteryous glitching and sporatic lockouts that were being encounterd by many, I had read the forums untill my eyes turned red trying to make sense of it all, and then I read a short story about how things work with a seperate bec. so I bought this switchable bec installed it and have never looked back; It`s been about one and a half years now, my ESC no longer gets hot and neither does the ubec. best of all no glitching and no lockouts. I am one very pleased customer. Larry

I purchased the UBEC sometime ago since my Shogun V2 uses 4 servos. The ESC was getting very hot and from the amp pull from the motor and servos. I added a UBEC and my ESC barely gets warm and servos response is consistent through the entire battery pack. I would recommend this UBCE if you are running more than 3 servos.

I BOUGHT IT AND I AM USING IT WORKING PARALEL WITH MY ALIGN 35X ESC THAT I HAVE I BOUGHT IT BECAUSE I HAVE A REGULAR RX (FUTABA 9DP RUNNING ON 58CH) SO I NEED TO BUY A UBEC.... I WAS FLYING WITH NO GLITCHES OR PROBLEMS MY WALKERA 60 (I HAD PUT MY RX CABLE ROUND THE METALIC FRAME AND NO GLITCHES WHEN I WAS FIRST SETUP THE HELI AND HOVERING A FEW INCH ABOVE THE GROUND) ...AND IT WILL CONTINUE WORKING IN MY T-REX THAT I BOUGHT RECENTLY BY THE WAY I BELIEVE THAT THE GLITCHES ARE CREATED FROM THE BEC ESC WHEN THE BATTERY HAS TO GIVE AMP TO THE MOTOR + TO THE RX + SERVO AND GYRO .....(FROM ONE BATTERY???? ) :p AND THE MOST IMPORTANT....LET SAY THAT YOU DONT LOOKING THE TIME THAT YOU ARE FLYING /....AND THE ESC FOR SOME REASON STOP WORKING....SO NOW YOU HAVE AN UNCONTROLED HELI COMMING DOWN !!!!(HOW MANY PARTS ARE GOING TO BROKE????) BUT WITH THE UBEC...EVEN IF THE ESC SHUT DOWN YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE CONTROLL (FOR A DEAD STICK LANDING) AT LEAST YOU CAN TRY TO MAKE A LANDING..... WHY I GIVE ONE LESS POINT FROM PERFECT RATING???:THE CABLE FROM UBEC IS VERY THIN....I DOESNT HAVE CRATE PROBLEMS TO ME ...BUT I WOULD PREFER THE CABLES THAT ARE FROM UBEC AND GOING TO RX TO BE MORE THICKER ( JUST TO BE THE SAME AS MY FUTABA CABLES.) STILL USING THE 5V NO PROBLEM!!!!!
