V-mar L19

Plane is very well made, covering is high quality, no wrinkles to speak of. The whole structure is light weight but strong, a combination of balsa and plywood. I am still assembling it, so I can't report on it's flying quality, but the weather here is not ideal. my only concern, and it's a minor one, is that the cowling is somewhat light weight, I would prefer it to be heavier grade plastic, other than that, I am quite pleased with the model. The markings are quite accurate for the time period,(mid 50s Arctic red and white) and very visible. All in all well worth the asking price.

Return of the Bird Dog

This is the third Vmar L-19 I have owned. The first two I bought were through Hobby King. They both were very easy to put together and great to fly. Vmar's fantastic scale detail and workmanship they put in their product line speaks for itself. Especially when you consider the cost. There have been a number of changes made in this version. First and foremost, the box arrived very quickly and was very well packed. With the two piece wing arrangement, I found the upper cabin window assembly was warped and very hard to install. I am hoping that with a little heat it might fit better. Concerning the pushrod for the rudder, I found it to be very stiff in its movement which put too much strain on the servo. The servo wire was replaced with one that I had that was not bent. The prior versions of Vmar's L-19 included the necessary parts for a battery box. This version does not include that nor do the instructions mention anything regarding the battery box or its placement. With the battery hatch located on the bottom of the fuselage, it is my recommendation the company should furnish some means of securing the battery and provide the necessary parts as done in the past. One added note, however, the area for the flight battery is limited so this might have a bearing on the capacity of the battery you wish to use. I have used 3S 11.1 v 1600 to 1800 mah lipos. no more than 3 inches in length.

In summary, I fully recommend to anyone wanting to purchase a nice scale park flyer at a decent cost this is your best bet. In fact, I notice that Vmar is now offering a Air Force version of the L-19 from the Viet nam era which I am interested in.
