VMAR Picanto Alpha - Dr. Jekyll, Meet Mr. Hyde.

Few planes offer so much feature packed performance and flexibility than the VMAR Picanto Alpha, transforming this high wing trainer into a low wing agile machine, equating to a true Jekyll & Hyde capability. Whether you are stepping into flight as an entry level pilot or searching for a high performance, low wing aerobatic aircraft, the Picanto fits the bill at every angle, making this multi-purpose beast the perfect machine, no matter what your skill may be.

Arriving in ARF form that can be assembled in hours, the Picanto Alpha is pre-covered in beautiful Polycote ECS covering, making this plane ultra easy to assemble, with a lovely aesthetic in every respect. Furthering this with a true bolt together build that utilizes a no glue assembly process, VMAR couldn't make this plane any easier to build, getting you out to the field and into the air.

VMAR keeps the flexibility coming, with the ability to setup this plane in tricycle gear or tail dragger form. Add in an easy to transport and store two piece wing, the Picanto Alpha makes flying a breeze, allowing the aircraft to be easily disassembled for excellent overall functionality.

Designed with a 64.7" wingspan with a light wing loading for ultra smooth performance, the two piece wing features (1) servo per aileron for the ultimate in precision and control. Move the wing from high to low, and the mood changes quickly, transforming the Picanto Alpha from a rock solid trainer to a high performance low wing thriller.

Ready to accept your power of choice, VMAR pulls all the stops with maximum flexibility, offering your choice of electric or glow power, with enough room up front to easily accommodate a large array of power. From high wattage brushless power or 2 & 4 stroke glow applications, the Picanto Alpha offers the ultimate in user choice, with no modifications required due to the Power Module design.

Stunning from every angle, the VMAR Picanto Alpha was purposely designed to keep the thrills coming, morphing from high wing stability to low wing aerobatic thrills - all with the very same plane. No need for step to step training with multiple aircraft in the mix; with the Picanto Alpha, this Jekyll & Hyde machine is ready to perform, offering epic flight qualities with an ultra wide flight envelope that rewards like no other.

Maiden the Picanto Alpha

Well I finally got some nice weather. The plane flew with little trim very stable it can fly at walking pace or punch hole in the sky. I way over powered it with a 3520 outrunner KV510 swinging a 15x8 prop. After a little trimming she flies on rails. Very pleased I damaged a prop when I landed and hit a crawfish's home that was about 7" tall was in the way. Other than that a great day. So all in all I would recommend this plane to anyone wanting to learn or just wants a great plane that can do it all from training to full blown acrobatics.

Shipping was fast. Had a few problems putting this plane together. One of the ailerons was glued to the wing, had to cut it off and installed new hinges. One of the push rods was glue to the frame and guide tube, had to cut it away and install new tube. You say that the parts are factory fit together, not on this one. Have not had a chance to fly it yet. Not very happy with the plane, but we will see how it does in the air. Builder for over 50 years.

Plane went together well just a bump here and there nothing major for me. A new builder might need some help. I did replace all the hinges, I just didn't like the factory live hinges they made the surfaces just too tight even after working them till the cows came home still too tight. I like that floppy hinge action no more stress on the servos. I was originally going to install a Saito 72 4-stroke but my fuel was bad. I don't like how a electric motor was to be mounted so I ordered a true mount not just 4 pieces of all thread. Mount we be here before Christmas not a big deal.

Upon opening the box I was very surprised at the quality of this kit great wood and covering is really nice very high quality hardware. Instructions kind of sketchy a new builder might need some help. The illustrations are a great help. More than enough room for radio gear Standard size servos fit very well. I'm installing a Saito 72 4 stroke should be more than enough power. I'm going with the tail dragger setup. Now the bad parts, the hinges SUCK lol the hinges are so stiff they don't allow for full throws and are so stiff they make the servos moan and grind even after exercising the heck out of them so I replaced them with real hinges from Do-Bro now the surfaces now have that nice floppy action, no more strain on the servos. The rudder needed to be modified due to it would not sit flush with the fuselage so I cut about 3/16" off the bottom of the rudder so now it sits nice and flush but I also had to remove the 2 bolts that hold the rudder in place and put them 3/16" deeper into the rudder to make up the 3/16 that was removed from the bottom of the rudder. Will maiden when the weather cooperates and the wind dies down to below 10 mph. I'm also going with the high wing setup to start just to see how tame it is, I have plenty of low wing planes and this will be my only high wing plane since 1980 lol. I will switch to low wing just to see how much I can get out of it.
