When Genius married Joy, their first child was the Protos 500 (born again, with improvements, as the XL Power Protos 480 - thank God it's back). I have flown collective pitch RC Helicopters for 14 years. This has been my favorite helicopter out of the 12 or so models I have owned. When it was clear the original Protos 500 was not going to be supported, I bought what I thought would be 7+ years of kits and spare parts from wherever I could find them. This machine is beautifully engineered, quiet, elegant, cost effective and capable of everything from fun lazy cruising to hard core smack down. The Protos 500 / XLPower Protos 480 was light years ahead of its time and pioneered 4-5 features that are almost standard in most high end products today. Fun and easy to build. Low parts count. A perfect size for the most commonly available flying sites (playing fields, open pastures, AMA club fields). A must have. Yes, it's "just do it" time.
The 380 and 480 are amazing. XL seems to screw up the sizes for the head thrust bearings and bushing in the tail. But that's a $10 fix to get proper parts from goblin (thrust bearings from their 380) and koyosho for shims in tail. Totally worth it for the super quiet, amazing, clean simple design, super light helis. Just amazing. Nice work XL/Protos. Thank you for doing what you do.
