A compact competition crawler built for challenging rock terrain. Lightweight, portable, and designed for precise control on technical lines.
Key Features
Steering: 60°+ front and rear steering
Drivetrain: MOA (Motor on Axle) with 4WS
Portal Axles: High-reduction gearing for increased wheel torque and ground clearance
Chassis: Carbon fiber
Shocks: 85 mm high-performance shocks
Motor Compatibility: 380 / 36 mm motors, including compatible 2-in-1 systems
Build Type: Slider — electronics and wheels sold separately
Monty comes as a rolling chassis with the chassis, axles, shocks, electronics mounts, and hardware. The following components are not included, allowing you to choose your preferred setup or reuse existing equipment.
Radio transmitter and receiver
Two drive units — one for each axle
Two steering servos and servo horns
Four wheels and tires
Monty requires a radio system with at least four independent channels and suitable mixing functions.
| Channel | Function |
|---|---|
| CH1 | Front steering |
| CH2 | Front ESC |
| CH3 | Rear ESC |
| CH4 | Rear steering |
Requirements
Minimum 4 channels with an independent receiver output for each channel.
The transmitter must support channel mixing to adjust front and rear throttle.
Compatible options include the Sanwa/Airtronics MT-4 with MOA mixing or an EdgeTX radio such as the RadioMaster Pocket.
Rear steering can operate independently or be mixed with front steering, depending on the radio setup.
Monty uses independent front and rear drive units. You need two complete drive units: two motors and two ESCs, or two compatible 2-in-1 units.
All pinions must use the 48DP gear standard.
| Motor | ESC / 2-in-1 | Pinion Range |
|---|---|---|
| Furitek Unity 1800 | Built-in 2-in-1 | 17T–22T |
| Furitek Unity 2300 | Built-in 2-in-1 | 17T–22T |
| Dlux Stumpy | Small brushless ESC | 15T–22T |
| Furitek Dynamik 380 | Furitek Python X | 15T–22T |
| Furitek Dynamik 3800 | Furitek Python UTB18 | 15T–22T |
| Hobbywing Mini16 2-in-1 | Built-in 2-in-1 | Fixed 13T |
| Generic 36 mm outrunner | Compatible brushless ESC | 18T–22T |
Important
The Hobbywing Mini16 requires a 3D-printed adapter and a special Axial Capra UTB18-style 13T pinion. The adapter STL is available from 9C RC.
Confirm pinion compatibility before ordering.
After installation, rotate the drivetrain by hand to ensure the gears move freely.
A motor guard is recommended to protect exposed motors from rocks and debris. A free 3D-printable front skid plate is also available from 9C RC.
Monty requires two low-profile steering servos, one for each axle.
Recommended minimum torque: approximately 40 kg·cm.
Compatible examples:
JX B40
Reefs 800LP
AGFRC A66FHLW
NSDRC RS650 High Torque Low Profile (46–80 kg·cm, depending on voltage)
Use a 25 mm servo horn for the recommended steering range.
Servo Power Options
Split BEC: use the front ESC's BEC for the front servo and the rear ESC's BEC for the rear servo.
External BEC: use a single BEC rated at least 10A.
Direct power: connect a compatible servo directly to the battery power rail, following its voltage requirements. The NSDRC RS700 V2 is one example.
Safety: Do not connect both ESCs' positive BEC wires to the receiver at the same time. This can cause electrical conflicts and damage components.
Recommended battery: GNB 380mAh 3S LiPo
Dimensions: 20 × 17 × 55 mm
Weight: Approximately 32 g
Monty uses one battery to power both drive units. A Y-harness is required to connect the battery to both ESCs.
Recommended connector: XT30.
You can use a ready-made XT30 Y-harness or build one yourself. Ensure correct polarity and insulate all connections properly.
Monty supports 1.9-inch and 2.2-inch wheels using the VP 6-screw bolt pattern.
Wheel Recommendations
High-clearance competition-style wheels
Narrow-offset rims suited to the chassis width
Dlux 1.9-inch or 2.2-inch wheels, along with other compatible VP-pattern wheels
Setup Tip: Heavier front wheels and lighter rear wheels can help improve front traction when climbing.
Compatible Tire Range: 4.19–4.75 inches in diameter.
| Tire | Diameter | Wheel Size |
|---|---|---|
| Reefs Scrubs | 4.75" | 1.9" |
| RC4WD Baja MTZ Narrow | 4.6" | 2.2" |
| RC4WD Bully | 4.19" | 1.9" |
| INJORA XHX Pin Tires | 4.75" | 1.9" |
| JConcepts Ruptures | 4.75" | 1.9" and 2.2" |
60°+ Steering
Wide steering angles at both ends help Monty navigate tight spaces and technical rock sections.
Double-Joint CV Driveshafts
Designed to maintain smooth power delivery at extreme steering angles.
Integrated Servo Mounts
Rigid servo mounting helps provide precise steering control.
Optimized Portal Reduction
Designed to improve ground clearance and wheel torque for technical crawling.
Portable Design
Compact and lightweight construction makes Monty easier to carry to remote crawling locations.
Before running Monty, make sure you have:
One compatible 4-channel-or-higher radio system
Two compatible motor and ESC drive units
Two compatible 48DP pinions
Two low-profile steering servos
Two 25 mm servo horns
A suitable BEC and power setup
One compatible 3S battery
One Y-harness
Four compatible wheels and tires
Note: Monty is sold as a slider, not a ready-to-run vehicle. Electronics, wheels, and tires must be purchased separately. Always verify component compatibility and voltage requirements before assembly.
Go where others can't. Lock angles well past what a conventional axle allows, so the line you pick is the line you take.
02/Smooth power at extreme steering angles. No binding, no pulsing — torque stays even through the whole sweep.
03/Precision steering with maximum rigidity. The servo becomes part of the axle structure instead of hanging off it.
04/Higher clearance, greater wheel torque and reduced drivetrain load — the three things a competition crawler cannot trade away.

The best rock never sits next to a car park. Monty is built to travel on your back — over the pass, down the scree, into the line nobody else bothers to reach.
Take it anywhere. Crawl everything.
