Overview

TD-ISRM RS RF PERFORMANCE
With solid performance based on the dual-band 900M/2.4G RF signal link with multiple operating combinations of RF modes, the TANDEM X20R & X20RS versions are equipped with the TD-ISRM RS built-in RF module which is capable of supporting multiple protocols (like TW, TD, etc).
The TD-ISRM RS RF module has the dual 2.4G TW RF mode and supports simultaneous activation of working under TW and ACCESS R9 modes with the same module. In this configuration, the TW receiver and ACCESS R9 receiver can be connected via the SBUS IN/OUT ports to achieve redundant backup. This RF signal connection solution makes use of three different RF links at the same time in RC applications. This further enhances the RF signal’s reliability, particularly in long-distance RC operations scenarios.

DIFFERENCES IN APPEARANCE & FUNCTIONAL INPUTS
The X20R and X20RS have changed from the original X20 design in appearance. The bottom hand grip adopts the overall design of the PRO version, eliminating the need for an additional grip cover, and allowing the bottom part to be fully grasped by the palm for a more comfortable and relaxed grip. Additionally, the Lite-type external module slot has been adjusted to provide more fitting installation space for external modules of different shapes, making it more convenient.
R and RS versions add 2 extra trims, allowing for more precise tunings during the operations. The slider levers on both sides of the transmitter support adjusting the positioning of the center, catering to different users’ habits and preferences. The primary input components, including trim caps, center-slider caps, and knobs are all made from metal, offering rugged quality and enhanced durability for outdoor use.

UPGRADED ROBUST ANTENNA HANDLE & EXTERNAL LoRa ANTENNA CONNECTORS
The newly upgraded antenna handle incorporates the good capability of impact resistance facing the tough conditions of outdoor fields. The reinforced and thickened antenna casing is better suited for comfort gripping but also does not compromise the antenna’s performance. On the contrary, the redesigned antenna can transmit signal data more effectively, providing pilots with a more reliable flying control experience.
The X20R & X20RS are also equipped with 2 external antenna connectors, which can be mounted with additional 2.4G and 900M antennas for enhancing the RF capabilities working under the LoRa modes, to achieve enhanced long-range control.

I’ve been a Spektrum user for the last 10 plus years. Also tried the FrSky Taranus X9D a few years back. Spektrum is great, but expensive and I had my share of brown out experiences. The Taranus X9D was not a good experience as I kept having signal problems and the amount of work was too much so I quit that.

In Spektrum I currently have the NX10 (great radio but limited) and the iX14, also a great radio but it had its problems, also loading is a long wait, and it’s tied in with android 🙄.

After losing six planes last season I did lots of research and although my iX14 was the immediate culprit with signal issues as apposed to my NX10 with no issues what so ever, I still found in my research that part of the signal loses could be due to 2.4 becoming polluted This lead me to the FrSky Tandem line, the new X20RS to be specific.

When it first arrived I was like oh dam what am I getting into. Thoughts of the Taranus experience entered my head. The couple days I was like omg this radio is awesome and over the next two weeks I dove in every chance I got and programmed everything I could think of from YouTube vids. I’d run the battery down every day playing with this radio. I thought about it all the time and couldn’t wait to get back to it. Today, two weeks after my purchase I have all sorts of switches, functions, plane setups, sensors, the multi module, omg all sorts of stuff setup and still I can’t wait to get back and experience more. And let me tell you that the switch over from Spektrum to the X20 lineup was not as hard as I thought it would be. It’s so much easier than the previous Taranus experience.
I asked a friend of mine with a Taranus how to setup the low lipo cell sensor. He said he couldn’t remember but that it was complicated. He ended up sending me screen shots of the X9D, but before he even did that I already had it all set up in my X20RS and it was a breeze lol. I looked at his pics after and thought omg these look confusing lol.

Now two weeks in I already have ten of my old S8R receivers updated and two are in planes, plus two new TD SR6 and a TD SR10, plus voltage sensors and FM’s and special Timers along with all sorts of mixes. I’m even experimenting with using the six special buttons on the front lower center of the radio with the blue lights. I’m using one side as my throttle cut together with my timer resets. Top left turns on timers and throttle. Middle turns off throttle and timers and bottom turns off throttle and resets timers. I figure this way it’s a button I gotta push instead of a switch that can get bumped. Plus it’s got a blue light for the active position so just looking at the radio I know if the throttle is engaged.

As you can see I am having a great time with my beautiful radio. FrSky is so involved with their products too making changes and corrections as soon as they become aware. I feel as though I can program anything I can dream up. I fly jets. I have over 110 planes now and the thing I like most is being able to have the freedom to program my jets to fly smooth, look real, fly real, feel real and look like the real thing up there. The greatest compliment to me, and I get it a lot is when people say omg I had to look twice or even more because it looks so much like the real thing!

And the real thing can only be accomplished with a radio that has no limits. The Tandem line is as easy or as complicated as you’d like it to be and first hand I can tell you that the new Ethos system, yes it’s under some construction in a few places, but even in this state of it’s new life, it blows the competition away.

With the new 2.4 and 900 working simultaneously, that’s the game changer! With that it’s game over! No matter how hard I thought the switch was going to be, with the 2.4 pollution which is a real growing problem, I knew I had to make it work and eventually everyone else will have no choice as well, but I was truly very pleasantly impressed at just how easy and inviting the entire process was and is. I haven’t even mentioned one of the best selling points of this radio, the top screen. Omg is that sweet. Wow is all I can say.

With signal losses, brown outs, and even power loses FrSky has now addressed all of that with their new Tandem line along with the new TD receivers. Now the only thing we pilots need to worry about is an actual mechanical system failure such as a servo and such and this is the way it should be. Signal lose and power loss on top of mechanical failure is really unacceptable with our current technology. Thank you FrSky for addressing the things in this hobby that make it both safe and fun as well as affordable!!! Thank you!!!

I’m already thinking about a second backup radio 😃. That’s just me. I always like to have a backup. At least I always needed one with Spektrum lol. If I had one I’d prob only use it for buddy boxing so I could show all the other members what their missing 😁😁😁
