I own quite a few RCs, and probably a dozen or so micro crawlers (several custom builds, RTRs, etc.). This CR18P Convoy is a fantastic little RTR to add to the fleet. One big question I had is how well it would crawl with a brushed motor. I've had bad experiences with brushed RTRs in the past. This Evo 2 platform brushed system is very good. No, it won't outperform a brushless ESC with FOC. However, it is the best brushed system I've ever used on an RTR micro crawler. I don't see a need to upgrade it.
I like: Looks & color. Light kit. Price-to-performance value. RTR crawling ability. Two-speed trans. Stock tires.
Kinda-like: Oil filled shocks. Chassis design. Body clips and mount.
Don't like: Noodle plastic links. Plastic drive shaft. Plastic wheels. Transmitter size (a bit small for me). Battery holder (uses rubber bands). Rock slider mounts (plastic too flexible). Gear shift servo mount (too flexible). Cheap servos (acceptable, given the price).
Really don't like: Battery connector. Everyone in the biz using PH or JST, and these guys go with some weird Molex type with hardly any adapters available.
I did have one minor setup issue. The endpoints on the gear shift servo were set incorrectly from the factory. This created some confusion for a second until I was sent a YT video showing how to set them. After setting the endpoints, it has been great. DirectRC was helpful in assisting me.
Very happy with this truck. I'd recommend it to anyone, beginner or experienced Micro driver. The only thing I wish I could change is the battery connector. Everything else is pretty easy to swap, upgrade, or deal with. It is a very good value truck.
