YX C189 MD500E 150-size 6-Axis Gyro Stabilized RTF Scale Helicopter - Coast Guard (w/o Weapons)

The helicopter looks great and construction is of good quality. I like the scale details and the modular battery system with on/off switch works well. The helicopter is very stable and easy to fly. Actually it is too stable. Even on high rates the controls are limited and the cyclic is set up like a quad copter instead of a helicopter. For me that makes flying it too benign. I am not a expert heli pilot but I much prefer helicopter style flying vs. quads. I like somewhat of a challenge. I wish there was a way to set up the controls in a standard helicopter mode instead of as a quadcopter.

The C189 MD500 looks nice. It has a plastic body, with molded scale details like rivets and panel lines. The 5-blade rotor looks realistic. The heli is very stable and flies well. I've only flown it outdoors. The optical flow sensor helps it hover in place when you release the sticks. But in strong wind, it will drift and you'll need to control it manually. The battery snaps into place, but you have to pop off the heli's front windshield to install the battery. It's tricky to get the windshield to pop off and snap back on. Overall, this is a nice looking, stable, easy to fly helicopter.

Easy to fly

Good heli for beginners. The optical flow is a bit annoying and getting to trim can be a struggle but once it’s dialed in, it’s fun to fly especially with the 3 different modes. Be prepared to spend some time in disassembly and reassembly If you need to replace the main gear, you really have to take most of it apart…at least the outer shell to get the gear out Otherwise should be lots of fun it is very durable as I’ve hit some trees even the side of my house and it kept on flying. Make sure and get a bunch of extra batteries. I recommend at least 4 total. They charge super slow and once you start flying, you want to stop.
