This was my first Heli kit that I've built. I just have an RTF blade that I used to learn on. Let me just say this.. the kit was so much fun to build and all of the parts just fit together like butter. The only thing I needed to modify was the esc tray. It didn't have holes that fit the Hobbywing 120A esc. Just had to drill 2 extra holes, no issue at all. This kit was designed extremely well with high quality parts. I've built kits before and this was by far the most enjoyable. SAB quality is top tier, no questions asked.
This is my favorite 550-580 size helicopter. I set up mine for 7S power system, 7S 4500mah packs, full size servos, RotorTech 580/96 blades with stock tail gear ratio, belt tensioner, and XGuardRC head dampeners. I fly mostly at 2000rpm on the middle bank, with high bank set to 2200rpm. 265 flights total so far.
I experienced slow tail wobble during hover originally, but that went away when I switched the stock dampeners to XGuardRC Rigidcore dampeners. The stock quick release canopy knobs may require a little fiddling to get them to work and secure the canopy properly, but I just replaced them with quick release Loxx knobs, and there is no longer an issue. The enclosed transmission works very well, but it is a PITA and messy to work on after a crash. The stock black skid struts are a bit difficult for my aging eyes to see well in the air, but I replaced them with white skid struts that work superbly well. The tail belt rubbed against the back of the tail servo; I remedied this by shimming the tail servo down by about 2mm.
Performance is superb. I've never been able to blow out the tail no matter what I throw at it. It does not autorotate as well as 700 size helicopters, but it does autorotate very well especially for being a mid size helicopter and sporting a belted tail.
I lost my first one due to a bird strike, a Hawk attacked it! I didn’t wait long to replace it. For me it is the perfect heli in this class.
I wanted to update my 15 year old helicopter, and I am so glad I did... In a word, smooth...
Sab kits are top notch as well as their manuals great helicopters for sure
This is my first SAB and I was blown away by the quality of the kit. The packaging is overkill and the manual is the easiest to follow of any kit I have ever assembled. I have it setup on 12s and it is a phenomenal performer with more power than I need. It is very smooth, quiet and feels like it's on rails. The build: Xnova Lightning 560kv, KST BLS standard size servos, Hobbywing 130a, Ikon2.
I knew this Kraken was going to be my first Goblin when it was first introduced. Excellent build with great instructions, Have it all set up and now I will wait for warmer weather for the maiden. I am going to use a 6s setup for my sport flying. It is a very nice bird.
Excellent Kit , well thought out throughout construction, detailed instruction manual
Very nice kit with good instructions and parts are packaged nicely. Highly recommended!
