SteamRC AK420-HDX Helicopter Kit (with Blades)

For the price it is hard to pass up. I am flying mine on their engine an it flys fine. Parts prices are good.

This is my second AK420-HDX kit. The carbon Fiber is well cut and the aluminum parts are excellent. For the price, this kit is hard to beat. Flies on 4-6S and a wide range of head speeds.

Things to improve: Identify which parts are assembled with thread lock in advance. Parts are not always bagged in the order you need them.

After a bit of a mix up and an email, HeliDirect acted on my delivery in under a week. No email back with false promises or excuses. Just the action of gettin it to me as fast as they could. You read me right you guys.

The kit was really decent for the price point. Low parts counts and decent fit. The self tapping scews for the elevator servo I was using was too short for my servo tab. My boom actually had minor dents but wasn’t in a critical location for fitting to the tail case or the main frame. I like the look and size overall.

These are great kits to build and fly. The HDX moves the battery inboard and make a huge difference in stability,balance and 3D flying as well and smooth flight for the non 3d CROWD!!!

Great for a budget heli. Parts are budget friendly as well. Happy so far

This kit eventually came together pretty good but there is some things id like to mention about it. First off, the build instructions in the manual are (for the lack of better words) absolutely awful, this build took way longer than i expected because the manual was so vague. 2nd thing, the way they have you mount the elevator servo is insane, there is a hole in the frame side and they give you 2 little plastic spacers to pop into it and then screw the servo into those but then they want you to GLUE IN THE SPACERS BECAUSE THEY DONT FILL THE GAPS LEFT IN THE CARBON. What a horrible way to mount a servo. I dont think mine will fail because i used ca glue so they wont move but i have a feeling this is a major point of failure and also once theyre glued in its impossible to get the servo back out without cutting it out of the carbon. 3rd and most important thing in my opinion is a lot of hardware in this kit came cross threaded or just not even tapped. The big one was the spring loaded thing that holds the battery tray, the metal inserts in the frame side werent tapped for the button head machine screws they give you to fasten it to the frame, i was lucky i had some small nuts and bolts laying around that i could substitute for the bad hardware that came with the kit and was able to make it work. All of that being said i just had to remember i got a brand new kit for less than 300 usd and it actually is pretty good quality for the price, even a 680 dollar sab 420 doesnt come with a cnc machined rotorhead. Minus the irritating things listed above this is a great value for the money and im excited to fly it when i get done putting in electronics. Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone looking into this kit, if you like a little extra tinkering and a little bit of redneck ingenuity this kit aint bad. If youre expecting anything else and dont want to deal with any extra problem solving, save the money and get a premium kit.

This kit contains nice quality parts. Everything fits properly and comes in the kit. It would be nice if the kit came with a paper manual that has instructions on how to zero the head and tail.... like the old days. The online manual is ok but leaves a few things out or ambiguous. All in all very happy with the purchase.
