SteamRC AK420 PRO Helicopter Kit (with Blades)

Go ahead...buy this little sucker! You won't believe how good it actually is....

I fly mine w FrSky 20 AW transmitter, RotorFlight Vantac 007 FBL, FrSky servos (unreal performance) HW 80A ESC, Steam 3220. 1000 kv motor....crazy power, again on the cheap

It's also very easy to assemble, tho you may need to adjust - loosen - some ball links, they are very stiff.

You won't be disappointed, trust me.

I saw a AK420 pro fly fast year and decided I wanted one. When the kit was on flash sale, of course I picked one up. I am adding the HDX upgrade as soon as the canopy is back in stock.

I have built lots of heli's and the steam 420 is a great build, not cheap and heavy duty, also is a great price, this heli would last.

These guys always do a great job with shipping and service.
This heli is a great kit and I was surprised of the quality at a budget price.
These kits are a great dailey flyer or new to the hobby person that wants to get their feet wet in this hobby.

Many have complaints that I could never understand. Having the manual online and able to zoom in on sections is great. But what's even better is the flight characteristics of this bird. TORQ-Servos, HobbyWing ESC, Nexus-XR. Which I recently switched from Ikon2(thank you HeliDirect) bc it flies even better.

I'm no 3D expert or smack 3D flyer, so I cannot speak for quality in that aspect. But I've had some serious crashes, that should've costed me or even should of broken more parts. If you've built a heli before or even have fixed a heli, then building this one shouldn't be an issue. Got for Christmas in 2024, and I've been flying this bird ever since. Whatever I'm flying that day, this AK420 comes also.

I would have preferred to wait until I can actually fly the model before sending the review, but I keep getting spammed with emails to review it now, so here we are.

The build instructions are not the greatest, but all the parts were there and I was able to get the heli assembled without any major issues. space is pretty tight in the frame for the ESC and wiring, but it is achievable.

For the cost the quality is more than satisfactory, looking forward to getting her in the air soon!

My kit arrived with damaged parts, open parts bags, missing parts and soft metal parts. Save your money and get a better quality kit!

I recently bought one of these Steam 420 PRO. This kit NEEDS a printed manual, the electronic can be printed at least.

It's a decent quality helicopter with most parts fitting really well (even the plastic parts). I do like that there are shims included for almost everything. Some people could say this is a issue with fit, but I've built high quality kits that could use shims to make the fit perfect. There are some clever things like a swash leveling and ball link tool. The ball links have a reinforcing ring Getting the boom aligned and installing the tail drive gear takes some patience. The landing gear with the metal inserts is kinda clever.

The Steam 420 blades are garbage. I mean they will be fine for hovering and sport flying, but you get what you pay for. If you are a hardcore 3D pilot, get a better set of 420s. The pinion also needs to be taller, getting a better feeling head speed needs a 13t pinion included in the kit.

Fly's well, but just needs a bit more "pop" which I think a better set of blades and a 13t pinion will wake it up a bit.

Bought this thing strictly for training purposes due to price and recommendations from a friend. Though there are a few small details that I would consider a little less in quality than a higher-end machine, such as the way the rear cyclic servo mounts, and the tail control rod ball links threading into the plastic, they are such small details. For the price point, I can't see how it can be beat. It really is great quality for what it is. The price of replacement parts is what sold me. Even the replacement parts for my Logo 200 are more expensive. I think the tail servo/belt tensioning device is a pretty neat little feature of this heli and I really like the durability of the main gear. In this particular build, I also used the Steam motor and it works fantastic. If I had any concerns, it would be about the availabiltiy of parts, as it seems there are only two vendors that sells parts and some of the main parts like the main and feathering shafts can be out of stock for long periods of time.
