Easy Build TB40

I haven't built a heli in 10 years so I was expecting a leaning curve but this one was easy. Directions were clear enough to follow without any issue. The internet had plenty of recommendations for how to arrange the ESC and RX and belt tensioning which helped build confidence. Planning to fly it as soon as the weather warms a little. Like another reviewer I did notice the tail servo holder will flex but that's only if you let the tail slider bind to point it pushes back so that shouldn't be happening in practice. The motor on this is ridiculous too. It's a beast.

AWESOME

Align knows how to build an even better mouse trap. I have my T-rex 550E still it's over 10 years old and still flies like a dream.
However, I just purchase the TB60 not quite two weeks ago flew it yesterday it is smooth like ice cream. I purchase two TB 40s today and a TB70. NO one does it like align

Align TB 40

TB40 is a nice helicopter.
I like belt drive which is very smooth and more up to date to today's helicopters. Went together very easy I made a few simple 3d printed parts to make changing anything out for wiring easier, also for rx antenna not a lot of room on these smaller helicopters so can be a little challenge.
Got IKON2, 2200mah battery, got the orange tail fin and tail boom which is orange vinyl wrap not orange carbon fiber I knew that it probably was vinyl kind of disappointed but its ok.
Working on a little tail wag now will see if I can get it nice and solid if not may upgrade to a better tail servo and go from there.
Overall, I like it. price is really good.
I find it very easy to work on. needs some fine tuning but that's part of the hobby.

Has the presence of a 600-700 size Heli!

This heli is amazing just like Helidirects customer service. The build is straight forward and to the point. If moneys a little tight and you want a heli that flys like the big boys, grab this Guy! I ended up dropping the MicroBeast and added a Vbar Neo, 385mm Mains, 72mm Tail with a Torq CLO604T servo (My preference, Stock gear was fine) a few hours of fine tuning and was blown away by the performance. Not to mention parts are a little cheaper. When I don't have the time to break out the Raw 700, I grab this guy and practice, practice, practice!
Cons: Microbeast (Not a fan, but will get you flying)
Servo horns (Added epoxy when screwing in the balls)
Align is always my go to when I don't want to break the bank!

Just the build

I am just completing the build of the Align TB40 Helicopter TOP Combo and for the most part it is great. The problems I had were parts quality issues with the servo arms, tail gear case and missing screws. Once those were corrected by HeliDirect the build proceeded as expected.

Align TB40 Helicopter TOP Combo

Very nice heli. Still in the process of getting it together and can’t wait to fly it once it’s finished. It’s similar to the Align TB60 Heli but smaller.

Great mid sized helicopter

I consider myself a beginner so I was looking for a great quality helicopter that wouldn’t break my bank account in case of crash. The best PRO of this helicopter is price and quality. Congrats Align great performing heli… buy the top combo and save with great quality servos

It's got that slow tail wag like my nimbus, I'll let everything wear in for a while. Oh, and the degrees of roll in the stock ikon is too much for a 380. Gotta find the sweet spot where I like it and it's fun.

Dude idle 1: stock 380° turned down to 240°
Still a bit too much, not where I like it. No cyclic wobble. Idle 2 & 3 were crazier. I'm still currently tuning it.
I'm running 14° of collective and whatever the max amount of cyclic I can without the servos contacting the frame. In the Ikon, I have sport, acrobatic, then 3d. As my flight characteristics profile to correlate with my 3 idle ups.

Not a fan of microbeast, put it up for consignment at my local hobby shop. Bought an ikon 2 when I purchased this kit.
I like the look of it topless, very sexy and mechanical! Not a fan of the canopy.

These servos that came with the kit, are super noisy! So noisy I thought I had bad servos.
The align blades aren't what I like. I have some azure power blades on order.
Weak points : tail servo flexes under stress. The skids/landing gear are weak, they break all the time.

I wouldn't recommend this as a first time kit, I'd recommend a m4 or the rs4. The manual is gonna be lil bit challenging for beginners, it's all in black and white; sorta makes things difficult to see where stuff goes.

Parts are cheap! That one of the main reasons I bought this kit! And it was on sale! (Memorial day sale)
